Season Synopsis

Has given control to the Wolfram branch in Los Angeles & amp; Hart at the height of the fourth season, Angel and his allies are now surrounded by a world of wealth, power, and corruption that they find begins to weaken them from within. While Angel handles the day-to-day work of the company itself, other team members are delegated special tasks within the company; Fred leads the science division practically, Lorne is responsible for the entertainment division, Wesley leads the impressive research and development department as well as the almost infinite library and Gunn becomes the firm's top lawyer after his brain is upgraded with a comprehensive knowledge of law (human and demon) on orders from Senior Partner himself. Like the deal Angel made to save Connor's life, he and Cordelia will not join the team at their new headquarters. Meanwhile, Harmony Kendall was hired by Wesley to become Angel's secretary with a familiar face and a new character, Eve, was introduced to act as a team liaison to the partners. At the end of the first episode Angel opens a package containing amulets used to destroy Hellmouth at the end of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. From the talisman, Spike is raised in a non-physical state, not sure why he came back after giving his life to protect the world. Though Angel is confused and frustrated by the arrival of her centuries old rival, she continues to affirm to her increasingly unsure squad that they will be using the enormous resources at Wolfram & amp; Hart to help the world. He does his best to root out the most cruel employees and clients in the company while constantly being placed on all sides by the evils that surround them.

When the team enters their new environment, they begin to lose touch with each other because of the many demanding time of their daily work. Meanwhile, Spike befriends Fred in the hope that he will be able to use his genius intelligence to figure out how to condense it and tie it to a mortal plane. He begins to abuse his resources (to the worriment of Angel) after Spike tells him that he is constantly slipping closer to hell. Meanwhile, Lorne takes her sleep to concentrate more energy on her work and Wesley is confronted by a critical father and attempts to tackle her serious problems surrounding her unhappy childhood. In "Destiny", a package is delivered to Spike who miraculously returns his true identity, inadvertently causing widespread chaos worldwide. Eve explains that, because the Shanshu Prophecies that claim that vampires with souls will play an important role in the coming apocalypse, the world has been thrown out of order because now there are two vampires with the mandate required to fulfill the prophecy. Hearing his story of a quest that will determine the true champion, Angel and Spike fight for the possibility of true redemption. Spike won after a long and cruel fight, but it turns out they were tricked by Eve and her new boyfriend, long-lost Angel Lindsey McDonald's antagonist. At this point, Angel begins to question what his faith is in Shanshu's Prophecy that ultimately he will regain his humanity in return for saving the world.

After Eve and Lindsey's next scheme leave Angel's riding bed, the gang begins to question Eve's loyalty to the company and alienates her from the building. Meanwhile, Lindsey approached Spike under the guise of old friend Angel Doyle who claimed that she received a vision from The Powers That Be and Spike had a mission to help the helpless. Spike reluctantly buys into it and ultimately saves Angel's life as well as taking on Angel's role as a Los Angeles secret protector. After Cordelia awakens from a coma, she tries to help Angel get her life back on track and help him in thwarting Lindsey's plans to control Wolfram & amp; Hart for himself. After Lindsey's disguise was thwarted, Senior Partner called her to the dimension of hell in retaliation for trying to take Angel's life. Cordelia repeats to Angel that she loves him and kisses him, just before he receives a phone call reporting that Cordelia died that morning. When Angel turned, Cordelia left.

It was later revealed that Powers That Be enabled Cordelia to deliver a final vision to Angel, giving her the knowledge needed to lower the evil crime that controls Los Angeles. After the "Smile Time" event (where Angel transforms into a doll and starts a relationship with werewolf Nina Ash), Fred and Wesley share a passionate kiss that ignites their newborn relationship. However, the tragedy struck when Fred was infected with an ancient demon spirit called Illyria. Eventually the parasite ate Fred's body and he died in Wesley's arms. After Illyria is brought out he tries to raise his temple and summon troops to take back Earth from human outbreaks. He failed in his efforts, however, and found himself lost in the modern world. He approaches Wesley and asks him to be his mentor, which he approves because he physically resembles Fred.

From that time on, Wesley spends his time researching every last piece of information about Illyria and develops an attachment to him. Meanwhile, the other gang members were also devastated by losing the one thing they actually agreed on: their love for Fred. Spike and Illyria were involved in many joint debate sessions, initially as a way of testing Illyria's abilities. Lorne became frustrated by the corruption that surrounded her and eventually left her for good. Gunn felt tremendous guilt over his role to play in Fred's death, after signing a warrant to allow Illeria's sarcophagus to pass through customs to receive a new brain enhancement, while Angel responded to Fred's death with plans to defy Wolf, Ram and Hart.

In "Underneath" Angel went on a mission to save Lindsey from hell to learn everything she knew about Senior Partner. Gunn remained in Lindsey's place as a punishment for playing a part in Fred's death. Later, Angel comes into contact with Connor for the first time since he signed a deal to take over the company and learns that Vail Cyvus wizard needs Connor to kill ibujhan the devil, who is responsible for writing the false prophecy, for all intents and purposes, causing Angel's decision to take instead of LA Wolfram and Hart. Although Connor manages to kill the demon it is not without the price: he has his original memory back to him after Wesley uses Vail's magic to try to rewrite the past and bring back Fred. Connor, however, understood what the Angel did for him and decided to continue living a fake life. After Illyria with a solitary rescue Gunn from the dimension of Hell Partner Senior, he claims that Angel Investigation owes him immense. As his power continued to spin out of control, Wesley made a device that would draw negative energy away from him and into his own pocket world. This makes Illyria much weaker than before, also emotionally confused by losing so much of her strength.

Gunn returned to his roots, releasing a Lawyer persona and really questioned where his loyalty was while Angel and Spike traveled to Rome after they heard that Buffy was in danger. Although it turns out he was actually happy both came to reconcile their feelings for both her and for each other. Meanwhile, since Eve's betrayal to her partners, Angel was given a new liaison with firm - Marcus Hamilton.

As the group continues to notice changes in Angel's personality, they engage in violent intervention and learn that Angel intends to bring down Wolfram & amp; Hart at its core - The Circle of the Black Thorn. When Angel tries to get into an exclusive group that claims to operate at the world's sorrow center (doing so by formally giving up his chance to become a human again through Shanshu prophecy), the rest of the team spent the last day perfect. do what they want to do; Lorne sings at a karaoke bar reminiscent of the days when she runs Caritas, Gunn meets up with her old friend Anne and helps her move the furniture to a new homeless shelter, Spike does her poetry at a rowdy club for a lot of cheering and applause, Angel spends her time with Connor applying for an apprenticeship, and Wesley spends his time wrapping Illyria's wounds from the fight with Marcus Hamilton.

Illyria asks Wesley why he does not spend the day doing what he likes, which Wesley answers that the thing he loves is dead. The team shared one final farewell to each other before they all went to fulfill their own destiny. When the Angel secretly issues the Leader of the Circle (Archduke Sebassis) he is confronted by Hamilton and, with the help of Connor, wins the battle. Wesley takes Cyvus Vail when both fight using powerful magic. Wesley failed to kill him, however, and eventually died in Illyria's arms; he re-created Fred's form and personality for the last time before punching his fist through Vail's head. Gunn is severely injured in bringing down a demonic politician and his vampire troop, while Spike destroys the demon sect and saves the messianic babies his cult cultivated from his mother.

With a ruined circle, Angel Investigations meets in the rain behind Hyperion Hotel. But with the deaths of Wesley and Lorne gone, her innocence was destroyed, Angel, Spike, injured Gunn, and Illyria were all left of the team. In retaliation for their rebellion, the Senior Partners let go of the armies of Hell against them; in response, the team rushed to an apocalyptic battle against great opportunities.

Crew

The creator of the Joss Whedon series served as executive producer, can now concentrate more on Angel because both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly ends. Whedon writes and directs two episodes throughout the season ("Conviction" and "A Hole in the World"), co-authored the story for "Smile Time" and co-wrote (and directed a number of scenes) the final series, "No Fading". Whedon was originally intended to direct the final episode of the show but his commitment to filming Serenity (the sequel to Firefly ) made it impossible for him to do so. He delegated the task to show Jeffrey Bell who also wrote the episode with Whedon. Bell will write and direct only one other episode this season.

After Buffy ended, David Fury joined the full-time co-author staff as a co-executive producer, then promoted to midseason executive producer, and wrote or co-wrote four episodes, including writing and directing the 100th episode. Buffy author Drew Goddard also joined the staff as an executive story editor and wrote or co-wrote five episodes. Steven S. DeKnight was promoted to producer, then promoted to supervise the midseason producer, and wrote or co-authored six episodes, two of which he directed. Ben Edlund was promoted to oversee the producer and write or co-wrote four episodes, including writing and directing "Smile Time". Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain were promoted to executive story editors and wrote three episodes. Brent Fletcher, who is a script co-ordinator, wrote an episode, directed by serial star David Boreanaz.

Co-creator David Greenwalt, who has left Angel in his official capacity at the end of the third season, returns to direct the antepenultimate episode of the series, "The Girl in Question".

Cancellation

On February 14, 2004, The WB Network announced that Angel will not be brought back for the sixth season. A one-paragraph statement showing the news, which has been reported by the website of the previous day, has been leaked long before the network intended to make its announcement. Joss Whedon posted a message on the popular fan site, The Bronze: Beta, where he expressed his disappointment and surprise, said he was "heartbroken" and compared it to "a healthy man who fell dead from a heart attack." Fan reactions are to organize letter writing campaigns, online petitions, blood and food movers, commercial magazine ads and through mobile billboards, and efforts to lobby other networks. UPN is a specific target, because it has taken Buffy . Anger for cancellation focused on Jordan Levin, Head of WB Entertainment.

Writer and producer David Fury "warrants" that if Joss Whedon does not ask for an early update Angel will return for season six:

The only reason that Angel is not back... it's a very simple thing. As our ratings rise, because of our critical attention, Joss specifically asked Jordan Levin, who was the head of The WB at the time, to give us an early pickup because every year they [will] wait so long to give Angel pick-up [and] many of us [will] refuse work hoping that Angel will continue - he [Joss] does not want that to happen. So, he feels very confident and he [Joss] just asks Jordan, "Like, make your decision now whether you'll pick us up or not," and Jordan, sort of with his hands tied, with his back up to the wall, calling him the next day and said, "Okay, we canceled you." Jordan is no longer there and The WB has since admitted... I believe Garth Ancier at The WB says that it was a big mistake to cancel Angel . There is a game of force going on that does not fall off the way they want it to. We wanted to get pick-up early, we did not. In fact we forced them [The WB] to make a decision, and with his hand forced him [Levin] to make a decision to cancel us.

I guarantee, if we wait as usual, when May comes, they will take Angel . I can guarantee that.
