Ten Years of Harmony is the official double album compilation album released by Beach Boys in 1981, and covers the entire Bruder Records era up to that time (1970-80), including some materials that have never been released or rare. Although the song "Darlin '" was recorded in 1967 when on Capitol Records, the version of
The Beach Boys had more or less broke out in 1981. Far from being clear, Brian Wilson occasionally appeared on stage, especially as Carl's brother substitute, who simultaneously started his solo career. Dennis Wilson will appear for occasional concerts, but will usually be argumentative and annoying. Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston are the only stable members of a band that now has all the supporting musicians as they perform live. However, the release of Ten Years of Harmony continues to pretend to happen and, unexpectedly, M.I.U. The cover album of "Come Go with Me" became a US top-twenty hit when it was released as a single from this collection.
While taking tracks from the 1970's Sunflower to the previous year Keepin 'the Summer Alive , the compilers also included some unreleased weirdness, scarcity, and songs. First, some songs, "Rock and Roll Music" and "California Saga: California" are presented in their original single mix. In addition, the Ten Years of Harmony included the 1979 A-side "It's a Beautiful Day" (which failed to chart), a song written by Dennis Wilson entitled "San Miguel" (which is > Sunflower -era outtake from 1969), a cover of "Sea Cruise", which is a rejected track of the Big Ones 15 session, and a selection from Dennis's solo album, Ocean Pacific Blue , "River Song".
Only the current Beach Boys (Al Jardine, Mike Love, Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, and Dennis Wilson) appeared on the front cover of the gate on the original LP edition. The group vetoed the use of photos with Bruce Johnston, who had rejoined the group in 1978 after six years of absences, and also rejected suggestions that Johnston appeared in the inset of the selected photo.
Ten Years of Harmony , now not printed, sold quite a lot in its release to reach the number 156 in the US.
