The Federal Bureau of Medicine, Rochester (FMC Rochester) is a US federal prison in Minnesota for male detainees requiring special medical or mental health care or long term care. This is defined as an administrative facility, which means holding prisoners of all security classifications. It is operated by the Federal Prison Bureau, a division of the US Department of Justice.
FMC Rochester is located in southeastern Minnesota, 2 miles (3.2 km) east of downtown Rochester.

Facilities
FMC Rochester is one of six medical referral centers within the Federal Bureau of Corrections. Healthcare staff at FMC include doctors, dentists, dental assistants, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, pharmaceutical technicians, radiology technicians, physical therapists, laboratory technologists and respiratory therapists. Mental Health Services through the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology is available to all inmates. These include education groups, therapy groups, individual therapy, intensive diagnosis/assessment, and inpatient care. In addition, outpatient drug abuse treatment services are also available.
In 2009 Philip Fornaci, director of the DC Prisoners Project, stated that Rochester, along with FMC Butner and FMC Carswell, "is clearly a" gold standard "in terms of what BOP facilities can offer in medical care" and that they have provided " excellent medical care, sometimes for very complex medical needs. "

The famous incident
In July 2009, Richard Torres, a correcting officer at FMC Rochester, was charged with smuggling smuggled into a prisoner's facility in exchange for thousands of dollars in bribes. Smuggled goods include cell phones, tobacco and creatine powders. Torres was dismissed and pleaded guilty to a bribe two months later and was sentenced to one year in federal prison.
