" Smile " is a song from the American pop rock band, R5. It has a premiere radio on November 14, 2014 as the lead single from their second studio album, Some Last Last Night .

Write and composition
The song was written by Leah Haywood, Daniel James, Brian Lee and Matt Thiessen and produced by Dreamlab and Randall Bobbitt. The band's vocalist, Ross Lynch, told Teen Magazine that the song was about "doing silly things to make other people smile" and "simplicity just happiness." "Smile" has a length of three minutes and twenty one seconds and sonic, "rock and roll classic" is the main inspiration of his voice. "Smile" compared to Maroon 5 and Bruno Mars.

Reception
"Smile" has received generally positive reviews. Bop and Tiger Beat Magazine says the song is "sweet, interesting and great". Vivan Pham of Pop Dust notes that the band's voice has changed, no more teenagers into something more mature. He was positive and said it was "amazing". Raffy Ermac to Teen Magazine says "Smile" is the band's best song so far and they "play better than ever".
Live show
The first "Smile" Performance was on Family Channel, Family Special Day, in Canada, on November 16, 2014. On November 23, the band performed at the American Music Awards. On November 28th, they performed at Good Morning America.
Music video
On November 14, 2014, the band released live video in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to promote the song. The official music video aired on MTV on December 23, 2014. MTV also released an exclusive and behind-the-scenes interview, titled "What Makes R5 Smile?". The video shows the band backing out in the jungle garden in four different scenes, like the four seasons. In the summer the band plays with waterless weapons, in spring they are having a picnic, in autumn they dance in the rain between dry leaves, in winter they cut firewood in the snow.
A special version of the song was created for the Special Olympics. R5 changed some lyrics to fit the event.
