James Mark Burnett (born July 17, 1960) is a British television and film producer and writer and, since December 2015, president of MGM Television and Digital Group.
He has won twelve Emmy Awards, five Guild of America Awards Producers, seven Television Critics Awards, and six People Choice Awards.
Currently, Burnett is the executive producer of five network or special television shows and two cable shows: The Voice (NBC), Survivor (CBS), Tank Shark (ABC), Steve Harvey's FunderDome (ABC) and Jamie Foxx's Beat Shazam (FOX), SIGNified (VH1) and Lucha Underground (El Rey Network). In 2017, Burnett has won many events on six nights from seven games.

Burnett was born on July 17, 1960 in London, the only child of Archie and Jean Burnett, both Ford Motor factory workers, and raised in Dagenham, Essex. His father was a Roman Catholic and his mother was a Presbyterian; it is not known where his denomination was raised. Age 17, he enrolled in the British Army, and became Section Commander in the Parachute Regiment. From 1978-82 he served with the 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment in Company C and saw action during the Falklands War. and Operation Banner in Northern Ireland.

Initial career
In October 1982, Burnett emigrated to the United States, where his friend Nick Hill, who emigrated from England a few years earlier, worked as a nanny and driver. Hill knows about the open position for the caregiver who lives with the Jaeger family in prosperous Beverly Hills. Despite having no experience as a nanny, Burnett continued the interview. The Jaegers, realizing the advantages of having a caregiver and security at the same time, hired him. After a year working for Jaegers, he moved to another family in the coastal city of Malibu, California, taking care of two boys for $ 250 a week. He was finally given a position at the insurance office owned by Burt, the father of two sons. Two years later, Burnett rented part of the fence at Venice Beach in Los Angeles, and sold T-shirts for $ 18 every weekend. Realizing that he made more money selling t-shirts, he left his insurance job. In 1991, Burnett, and four others joined the French adventure competition, Raid Gauloises. After that, Burnett sees business opportunities in organizing similar competitions. He bought the format right and brought the same competition, Eco-Challenge , to America. Eco-Challenge launched Burnett's career as a television producer.

Burnett is famous for producing the reality show hit Survivor, which aired in the summer of 2000 and is the most watched summer series ever since Sonny and Cher . Survivor was named the # 1 all-time reality series by Entertainment Weekly in 2009.
In 2004, NBC premiered The Apprentice , a reality television series in which contestants compete for work under the real estate king (and future President) Donald Trump. The Apprentice spawned various licensed international versions of the show.
Burnett has produced several other television franchises including: Are You Smart Than 5 Graders? , Tank Shark , and The Voice . She has maintained a strong presence in the award-winning franchise event, having produced the MTV Movie Awards (2007-2011), the annual People's Choice Awards (2010-2017), Spike Video Game Awards (2011 & 2011) and the 2011 PrimeTime Emmy Awards.
Burnett has produced more than 3,200 hours of television programs that are regularly aired in more than 70 countries. The previous performances include "Celebrity Apprentice (NBC), Bully Beatdown , The Contender Asia , African Expeditions , Impossible Expeditions , How Do You Become Rich? , Martha Stewart , My Dad is Better Than Your Father , Where Lot (collaboration with Steven Spielberg), Restaurant , Alaska Sarah Palin , Star Produce Stripes , Starmaker , Weighted Cowboy , and >.
As well as ongoing production, Burnett and his wife, actress Roma Downey, produced The Bible, a 10-Hour History Channel drama based on Bible stories. The Bible becomes the new series No. 1 on cable TV in 2013 and is the No. series. 1 in Canada, Spain and Portugal. In total, with subsequent views, Bible viewed by over 100 million viewers.
After the success of The Bible , Burnett and Downey began to develop more faith-based manuscript series. A.D. The Bible Continues airs on NBC on Easter Sunday 2015, and The Dovekeepers miniseries airs on CBS in spring 2015.
In October 2013, NBC announced that it has reached an agreement with Virgin Galactic Burnett and Richard Branson to produce a television series in which contestants will compete to win spaceflight on SpaceShipTwo aircraft. The series will be titled Space Race , although it is not currently known when the event will begin running.
In September 2014, MGM acquired a 55 percent stake in One Three Media and LightWorkers Media, both operated by Burnett and his wife. The two companies will be consolidated into a new film and television company, United Artists Media Group. Burnett is CEO of UAMG and Downey is president of LightWorkers Media.
In December 2015, Burnett was appointed president of MGM Television and Digital Group, signing a five-year contract. Burnett's appointment is set to coincide with the closing of MGM's acquisition of the remaining 45 percent of Hearst's, Burnett's and Roma Downey interests at United Artists Media Group (UAMG), which will be absorbed under the umbrella of the MGM Television Group. MGM Television will now have many television shows without manuscripts and scripts being broadcast on network and cable or in production including: The Voice (NBC); Survivor (CBS); Tank Shark (ABC); Beyond the Tank (ABC); Celebrity Apprentice (NBC); Fargo (FX); Viking (HISTORY); Teen Wolf (MTV); 500 Questions (ABC); The People's Choice Awards (CBS); LIGHT TV, Lucha Underground (El Rey Network), and America's Greatest Makers (INTEL/Turner).
In 2016, Burnett produced the Ben-Hur movie, the adaptation of Ben-Hur's novel: A Tale of the Christ. The movie failed at the box office.
Personal life
In January 2004, Burnett began dating Rome Downey. In November 2006, while both were on vacation with their children in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, he proposed to her. They were married on April 28, 2007 at their home in Malibu. The ceremony was inaugurated by former comrade Downey star Della Reese.
Burnett is an Evangelical Christian. He and Downey produced The Bible (miniseries) and are now co-owners of United Artists Media Group along with MGM and Hearst. In addition to their production project, the couple is deeply involved with the philanthropic organization Operation Smile and Compassion International. In 2014 they announce a fundraising plan called Cradle of Christianity aimed at raising $ 25 million to help Iraqi and Syrian Christians and other minorities displaced by ISIL survive the coming winter.
Burnett previously married Dianne J. Burnett ( nÃÆ' à © e Valentine); they have two sons, James and Cameron. The couple filed a law separation in September 2002 and an assessment for legal separation was granted in December 2003. They subsequently divorced in 2006.
Awards, awards and affiliations
In 2004, Time was called Burnett one of the Most Influential People in the World Today. Burnett was also named "Philanthropist of the Year" by the Reality Cares Foundation. She has won Brandweek's "Marketer of the Year Award", the prestigious Rose d'Or Frapa Format Award, the Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award and the Norman Lear Award from Producers Guild of America.
Burnett served for two years on the Board of Directors for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. In November 2007, Burnett was elected to Broadcast & amp; Cable Hall of Fame and in 2008, it was announced that he would be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. On July 8, 2009, Burnett received a star on 6664 Hollywood Blvd. In June 2011, Burnett was elected to the Board of Directors of the Council of American Producers and currently serves on the Producers Council. He is the ambassador for Operation Smile.
In 2013, the ten-hour mini-series Bible receives the approval of Parents Television Council 2013. Shark Tank , The Voice , and Survivor are all nominated for the Critics Choice Awards, where Voice wins for the Best Reality Series - Competition. All three events are nominated for the Television Critics Association Award, where the Shark Tank won for Excellence in the Reality Program.
In 2013, The Voice , Tank Shark and The Bible was nominated for the Emmy Primetime Prize; The Voice wins for Outstanding Reality - Competition Program. "The Voice" and "Shark Tank" were nominated at the Critics Television Award 2015, where the "Shark Tank" won for the Best Reality Series.
In 2014, Burnett and his wife, Roma Downey, were recipients of the Entertainment Industry Anti-Defamation League Awards.
