The Khanda (Punjabi: ???? , kha ??? ) is a symbol of the Sikh belief, which reaches its current form around the first decade 20th century.

It is a mixture of three symbols:

  • Khanda double-edged (sword) in the middle
  • A chakkar (chakram)
  • Two one-eyed sword, or kirpan, across the bottom, seated on both sides of khanda and chakkar. They represent the dual characteristics of Miri-Piri , showing the integration of spiritual and temporal sovereignty together and not treating them as two separate and distinct entities.

This illustrates the doctrine of Sikh Deg Tegh Fateh in symbolic form. It consists of three weapons and a circle: khanda, two kirpans and a chakkar which is a circle. It is the Sikh military emblem. This is also part of the design Nishan Sahib . Khanda double-edged (sword) is placed at the top of the Nishan Sahib flag as an ornament or decoration.

In recent years, Khanda has been used to show solidarity within the Sikh community after high profile shootings in the United States.

Other symbols that may be confusing with Khanda are the aad chand (lit "half moon") of Nihang, consisting of swords khanda in the center of the crescent, above.

Symbols are encoded in Unicode, in various Miscellaneous Symbols, in codepoint U 262C (?).
