Interview with Wheeler Dealers Mike Brewer & Ed China | Drive News
src: www.drivenews.co.za

Wheeler Dealer is a British television series produced by Attaboy TV for Discovery Channel in the UK and Velocity Channel HD in the US. This program is fronted by car enthusiast Mike Brewer. Edd China served as a program mechanic for series 1 to 13; he was replaced by Ant Anstead in series 14. The premise of the event had a presenter on a mission to rescue old and repaired enthusiast vehicles, by repairing or refining examples of making and modeling for certain budgets, then selling them to new owners.

The program was created by Daniel Allum and Michael Wood, founding director of Attaboy TV, both old car enthusiasts.

So far there are 14 series of programs and three different theme songs have been used; which is currently Balaclava by Wideboys. The previous theme was from V-The Production Library by Music 4. Series 1 originally aired in 2003. The second part of Series 6 aired in the fall of 2009 on Discovery Real Time. Series 5 is renamed to Wheeler Dealer: On the Road ; in this series Mike and Edd expanded their car search by heading to Europe in hopes of finding a classic car to buy and restore. Beginning with part 2 of Series 8, Mike expanded their horizons by taking a tour of the United States. In Series 12, Mike and Edd set up a new workshop in Huntington Beach, California. This decision was made in order to give them more episodes of the show and means they can recover and sell cars on the spot, rather than send them back to the UK. Series 12 also reintroduces new workshops in the UK.

In April 2013, a spin-off series titled Wheeler Trading Up Dealer was launched. The series is manufactured by X2 Productions Ltd and has Brewer traveling the world to buy and sell, but does not repair or restore, using cars in various countries with a predetermined budget. He started with $ 3,000 and traded through the series up to Porsche 911. It was unveiled by Discovery Channel International for the second series in which Brewer finally bought a Ferrari.

Format

In every episode, Brewer buys a vehicle, hands it to his mechanic for repair, then sells it. For the first series, the budget is Ã, Â £ 1,000, for Series 2, Ã, Â £ 2000, and for Series 3, Ã, Â £ 3,000. The budgets in the next series vary, depending on the target vehicle. For example, a £ 10,000 budget is set to buy and restore the Dino 308 GT4 Ferrari in Series 6. For series 11 (2014), the budget is listed on the Discovery UK website as "up to £ 20,000".

Presentations for each project usually follow a similar TV format. Through series 6, the project is presented in two episodes of 30 minutes. Beginning with series 7, the format was changed to a single episode of 60 minutes (including ads).

Summary

This program is made with DIYer thinking. Costs, and thus any profit or loss for a given project, are assessed without considering the cost of mechanical labor (the assumption is that complete and capable enthusiasts can complete all the work themselves) but if repairs require professional help, such as body resprays, elaborate electronics , or windshield replacement, they are added to the final cost.

Also aimed at each vehicle is its service history, bodywork defects (eg rust, dents), outdated interiors and accessories. Vehicles that have been inactive for a prolonged period of time or purchased from outside the UK are restored and modified to pass the MOT test certification country feasibility test certification.

First part

  • Brewer starts with a budget to buy and then repair the vehicle.
  • Brewer provides a brief history of the benefits of the selected vehicle model.
  • Brewers, test drives, negotiating and buying a vehicle (usually sealed with a handshake and Brewer triumphantly telling the camera that he just purchased the & lt; name of the vehicle & gt;).
    • (Starting from series 5, the prospective car Brewer wants to buy, but requiring too much work, is shown. This also happens in Series 1, Episode 7)
  • Brewer turns the vehicle into mechanics, and together they assess their needs.
  • The mechanic starts work, gives an assessment of the job and its challenges.
  • Brewer stops at the workshop to get an overview of progress, and the spend is reviewed.

Part two

  • Short review of the first episode (for series where each project is divided into two episodes).
  • Brewer takes a field trip to get some needed parts.
  • Brewer interviews owners of similar vehicles in top condition, then encourages and comments on cars. Brewer also assesses the benefits and possibilities of getting an example of Wheeler Dealer for the same conditions as the example he was driving.
    • (This feature is derived from series 5 and beyond.)
  • The mechanics finishes the work on the project vehicle which is then displayed on a rotating turntable.
  • Brewer goes back to the garage and discusses the finished car with the mechanics.
  • There is a final count of spending.
  • Brewer moves the finished car, assessing the increase.
    • (Starting from series 5, Brewer and mechanical tests drive the finished vehicle together and discuss resale value.)
  • Brewer sells the vehicle to the new owner (after an inevitable bargain). The deal is sealed when Brewer says, "Hold your hand, you just bought & lt; the name of the vehicle & gt;!" and shake hands of new buyers.
  • Brewer summarizes what the selling price and the final profit (or in rare cases what the losses are) and usually states that they have saved another vehicle to be enjoyed by the new owner.
    • (Starting from series 5, potential buyers who failed to buy a car are shown.)

Cast

Mike Brewer used his skills as a former car dealer to find and buy used cars to be recovered and sold for profit. He is also responsible for obtaining spare parts and sometimes specialists to refurbish expensive parts.

Edd China is an event mechanic from series 1 to 13, performs many restoration and mechanical/service jobs, and gives viewers tips on how to solve and solve car problems, and estimate how much the garage will charge for repairs. On March 21, 2017, Velocity Channel announced that China had left the show "to pursue another project" and that it would be replaced by Ant Anstead in the 14th series. However, on the same day, Edd published a video on youtube, denying any other current projects. He explained that he chose to leave because he did not agree with the channel, who wanted to reduce his repair at the garage. Like, since the 13th season this show was produced by Discovery Studios (not Attaboy TV for the previous 12 seasons) for Velocity, Discovery Communications has strengthened its control on Wheeler Dealers and according to Edd, it seems that finding its production is too expensive.

Paul Brackley, the technical advisor of the series, made a sporadic appearance to help China in bringing heavy parts or equipment in the garage, when China needed additional help (like when China suffered bronze bleeding/clutch fluids or checking exhaust as the vehicle was running), and helped Brewer pull non-running or non-MOT vehicles to the store.

Guest appearances in other events

While buying more American cars for the show, Brewer went into Chip Foose during the June 2, 2013 Overhaulin 'episode, in which Foose showed Brewer at the 1972 Lotus Europa that he customized.
