History
Origins in Fort Myers
WAY Media, Inc. has been around since 1987. The nonprofit company started out as a single FM radio station in Fort Myers, Florida.
In the early 1980s, Bob and Felice Augsburg lived in Fort Myers, where Bob worked as Program Director at WSOR, a Christian Radio Station that was formatted for older adults. Bob and Felice have said that they are "forced by the burden to see a younger audience reach and Bob starts producing a Saturday night broadcast aimed at the youth." This program, broadcast on WSOR, was a stepping stone for Christian Rock concerts in the area and a boost for 24/7 stations in this format.
Many discussions with parents and local business people led to a Florida nonprofit company and applications filed with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for unused FM frequencies.
On Christmas Eve (24 December) 1986, the group received permission for the construction of a new non-commercial FM station in Fort Myers, WAYJ. On October 9, 1987, WAYJ, broadcasting as "WAY-FM", was signed in the air.
Growth
In 1992, three WAY-FM radio stations were broadcasting - including Fort Myers; Nashville, Tennessee (WAYM); and West Palm Beach, Florida (WAYF).
In the mid-90s, WAY-FM station, starting with WAYF, began sponsoring and organizing great Christian music concerts and music festivals throughout the day. Within a few years, Nashville and Fort Myers also began sponsoring major Christian music events.
After several years of planning, in 1996, WAY-FM started the Christian Hit Radio Satellite Network (CHRSN). This network is designed to help other stations that want to reach young people and young adults from their respective communities but do not have the energy or resources to operate their own stations.
Company office established
In 2001, WAY-FM Media Group set up corporate offices in Colorado Springs, Colorado where Bob Augsburg, president and founder now lives. Dusty Rhodes, former WAYF Station Manager, joined Augsburg in Colorado as Chief Operating Officer and now serves as Senior Vice President of the ministry.
In 2005, Dar Ringling joined the ministry as Chief Financial Officer while Lloyd Parker, formerly General Manager of K-LOVE & amp; Air1 Radio Networks, became Chief Operating Officer. They changed the station format from Christian Rock and Rap to Christian Adult Contemporary and Worship, shifting their audience from the ages of 18 to 34, into older adults.
In 2012, WAY-FM shifted from its old Christian CHR format to the Adult Christian Adult format. Since 2013 WAY-FM through WAYM main station, Nashville is a Christian AC reporter for Nielsen BDS service, and became a monitored reporter for AC Christian Mediabase panel in April 2015.
In July 2013, WAY-FM ceased providing a program for non-proprietary stations via satellite, with the exception of the network's morning show, The Wally Show . In 2017, The Wally Show also stopped syndication.
In May 2015, WAY-FM announced plans to acquire KVRK, in North Texas. The Station calls the letter now KAWA and now broadcast the WAY-FM format nationwide. But before that, Power FM has become an online music channel, app, and Christian rock music fan community run by WAY-FM Media Group.
New CEO
In August 2017, Founder Bob Augsburg officially retired from his position as CEO. Bob remains on the Board of Directors and is still involved in the ministry. John Scaggs was elected as the new CEO.

The Wally Show, WAY-FM's current morning show and self-proclaimed "needle for Christian bubbles," was launched in 2011.
