Oxygen is a digital cable and an American satellite television channel owned by NBC's Universal Entertainment Entertainment Group division NBCUniversal, all of which is owned by Comcast. This channel primarily shows criminal programs aimed at women.
The network was founded by Geraldine Laybourne, and carries a format that focuses on lifestyle and entertainment programs that are female-oriented, similar to competing channels such as Lifetime. NBCUniversal acquired the network in 2007; under NBC's ownership, the network is increasingly producing reality shows devoted to demography, and relaunched in 2014 to target the "modern", younger female audience. After the network experienced a successful ranking with programming blocks dedicated to the programming, Oxygen was relaunched in mid-2017 to focus primarily on real crime programs.
In February 2015, approximately 77.5 million American households (66.5% of households with television) received Oxygen. With the current format, the main network competes with Investigation Discovery and HLN.

Histori
The privately-run Oxygen Media was founded in 1998 by former Nickelodeon executive Geraldine Laybourne, talk show host Oprah Winfrey, and producer Marcy Carsey, Tom Werner and Caryn Mandabach (from Carsey-Werner fame). Laybourne is a service founder, chairman, and CEO, staying with channels up to NBCUniversal sales. The company's Oxygen cable network was launched on February 2, 2000.
The channel's first headquarters are in Battery Park City in New York City, near the World Trade Center. It was thrown off the air on September 11, 2001; NY1 Time Warner Cable's regional news channel was broadcast to all Oxygen customers across the country until the studio reopened within a week of the attack.
Network operations were then consolidated at Chelsea Market, Nabisco plant at 15th Street and Ninth Avenue in New York City. Oxygen Operations is now based at 30 Rockefeller Plaza as part of the Comcast consolidation of the newly owned NBC Universal property.
The channel initially started as an interactive service focusing on native programming with some reruns (like Kate & Allie ), and displaying a black bar at the bottom of the screen (referred to as "line", occupying 12% bottom of the screen) that will display various information (its interactive section involves channel websites); this technique was cloned by the New TNN Spike predecessor; the line finally fell. Prior to 2005, the channel was carrying a limited schedule of regular season WNBA games produced by NBA TV. Channels then start focusing primarily on reality shows, reruns, and movies. For a while during a talk show syndication, Oxygen broadcast a pending weekly report from The Tyra Banks Show . The yoga/meditation/exercise program Inhale is the last inaugural air oxygen program into the NBC Universal channel era, though in repeats; it was canceled in 2010.

In December 2016, it was reported that NBCUniversal was considering reformatting Oxygen as a truly crime-oriented channel. Since 2015, this genre is increasingly in demand, especially among young adult women. After introducing a genuine crime programming block known as Crime Time - which airs on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, and is devoted to a series like Snapped - the network sees an increase 42% in total views, and a 22% increase among women 25-54. In February 2017, NBCUniversal confirmed that they plan to reformat oxygen with a focus on crime programs targeted at women, including Dick Wolf's new season produced by Cold Justice (which TNT has abandoned). The change was accompanied by a larger re-branding later in the year, with a new logo featuring the Oxygen name given in the style of the yellow police tape. NBC Universal Lifestyle Network president Frances Berwick stated that the network has not yet determined the fate of non-network crime programming, such as Bad Girls Club , after full re-branding is in force. The new Oxygen lineup will be built mostly around existing libraries of crime-oriented programming not scripted (such as Snapped and spin-offs); Berwick explained that NBC did not rule out the addition of network reruns of police procedures, such as Chicago , CSI and NCIS franchises as well (with the last two already broadcast by network at the time).
During the upcoming presentation, Oxygen launched another new crime program for the upcoming season, such as Dick Wolf's Maps Oxygen (TV channel)
