Michael David Kors (born Karl Anderson Jr. ; August 9, 1959) is an American sports fashion designer. He is the honorary chairman and chief creative officer for his company, Michael Kors Holdings Limited (NYSE: Ã, KORS), which sells clothing, watches, jewelry, shoes, and men's and women's shoes and ready-to-wear. Kors was the first ready-made female designer for the French home of Celine, from 1997 to 2003.

Personal life
Kors was born Karl Anderson Jr. on Long Island, New York. Kors's mother was Jewish; his father is of Swedish descent. His parents were Joan Hamburger, his former model, and his first husband, Karl Anderson Sr., a student. Her mother remarried with Bill Kors when she was five years old, and her surname was changed to Kors. His mother told him that he could choose a new first name too; after which he changed his name to Michael David Kors. He grew up in Merrick, New York and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore, New York.
Kors married his partner, Lance Le Pere, on August 16, 2011, in Southampton, New York.

Careers
Kors's affinity for fashion began when he was very young. Her mother thought that her affinity might be partly due to her exposure to the clothing industry through her modeling career. Michael, at the age of five, even redesigned his mother's wedding dress for her second marriage. As a teenager, Kors began designing clothes and selling them from his parents' basement, which he renamed with Iron Butterfly. Kors also took acting lessons when he was young, but quit when he was 14 when he decided to focus on being a fashion designer.
In 1977, he enrolled at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. However, he came out after just nine months and took a job at a boutique called Lothar opposite Bergdorf Goodman on 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan, where he started as a salesperson and then became the chief designer and visual for the store.. Shortly after, Dawn Mello, fashion director at Bergdorf, discovered Kors. He asks if he will show his collection to the buyer Bergdorf Goodman.
In 1981, Kors launched the women's label Michael Kors at Bergdorf Goodman. In 1990, the company launched KORS Michael Kors as the license holder. Chapter 11 filings in 1993, caused by the closure of license partners for KORS Michael Kors, forced him to hold the KORS line. He managed to bounce back in 1997 and launched a lower price line and at the same time named the first ready-made female designer for Celine's French home. In his tenure at Celine, Kors transformed the fashion house with successful accessories and lines ready for use. Kors left Celine in October 2003 to concentrate on his own brand. Kors launched its menswear line in 2002.
MICHAEL Michael Kors line was launched in 2004, joining the original Michael Kors Collection label. MICHAEL line Michael Kors includes women's bags and shoes and ready-made women's clothing. Until the end of the first fiscal quarter of 2016, Kors has more than 770 lifestyle stores around the world. Currently, Kors has Collections boutiques in New York, Beverly Hills, Palm Beach, Chicago, Miami, and Southampton. In the US, the collection of female runways, labeled Michael Kors Collection, is sold at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale, and many specialty stores. Michael Kors Collection is also brought in brand stores in London, Paris, Cannes, Milan, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Seoul. The year 2016 marks the 35th anniversary of the Kors business.
Among the celebrities who have put on Kors design are Olivia Wilde, Dakota Johnson, Blake Lively, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lawrence, Taylor Swift, Kate Middleton, Hillary Clinton, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump, Heidi Klum, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Michelle Obama wore a black sleeveless dress from the designer to her first official portrait as First Lady and then drove Kors again at the State of the Union 2015 address. Viola Davis wore a Michael Kors Collection dress while receiving the Golden Globe as the best supporting actress in the film for her role in < i> Fences. Kate Hudson and Olivia Wilde wear dresses by designers until Golden 2016 Globes, and Emily Blunt, nominated for her role in Into The Woods, wearing a white wedding dress by designer in 2015. Joan Allen is wearing dress her when she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in The Contender . As Celine's creative director, Kors designed many outfits for actresses on screen, including Gwyneth Paltrow at Possession ; and Rene Russo in The Thomas Crown Affair . One of her dresses was worn by Alicia Keys for her performance in Barack Obama's first ball on January 21, 2013.
The advertising campaign for Kors, shot by Mario Testino, often reflects the jet-set sport that his fans love. Previous campaigns include Carmen Kass models on safari in Africa and relaxing on cruises. The newer campaign features are Joan Smalls and Freja Beha-Erichsen models that live with a jet set lifestyle.
Kors is a judge on a reality television program nominated for Emmy Project Runway, which airs on Bravo for five seasons; next season aired in Lifetime. On December 18, 2012, it was announced that Kors would leave Project Runway , to be replaced by fellow designer Zac Posen.
In January 2014, Forbes reported that Kors reached a personal fortune of more than $ 1 billion. Michael Kors Holdings has "scored two billionaires": Silas Chou and Lawrence Stroll.

- 2010: Receives Oliver R. Grace Award for Advanced Services in Advancing Cancer Research, an annual award given by the Cancer Research Institute, a US nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the treatment of cancer-based immune systems.
- 2010: Kors is the youngest recipient ever to receive Geoffrey Beene's Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Fashion Design Board (CFDA) and receive the FiFi Award from the Fragrance Foundation for Lifetime Achievement.
Legal issues
In January 2009, artist-designer Tony Duquette's company sued Kors for trademark infringement after Kors allegedly used the name and image of Duquette in promoting the Kors 2009 resortwear collection.
In July 2013, it became the second luxury brand, after Tiffany & amp; Co., to sue Costco for falsely claiming in advertising that they are selling their products.
In popular culture
Kors is referenced in the movie The Devil Wears Prada by Meryl Streep character Miranda Priestly. In that scene, Priestly sweeps into his office and gives a list of instructions to his personal assistant (Emily Blunt). Priestly said, "RSVP 'yes' to Michael Kors's party and I want the driver to drop me off at 9:30 and pick me up at 9:45 just".
Nicki Minaj also mentions Kors in Big Sean's song "Dance". Drake also mentioned Michael Kors in his song "From Time", and rapper Pusha T in his song "Numbers on the Boards". Additionally, Kors guest stars as himself in a Fashion Week themed episode of the hit teen show Gossip Girl ; the same show that repeatedly displays some parts of the collection.
