" I Will Not Smile Again " is a 1940 song written by Ruth Lowe.

The most successful and most famous version of the song was recorded by Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra, with vocals provided by Frank Sinatra and The Pied Pipers. The recording was released as Victor 78, 26628A, in 1940. This version is number one on the first Billboard 'Bestselling National Register of Sales Records' - the first official national music chart - on July 27, 1940, in the top position for 12 weeks to 12 October 1940. The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1982. "I'll Never Smile Again" was recorded with vocals by Frank Sinatra and Pied Pipers. Glenn Miller and his Orchestra also recorded a version of the song in 1940 on RCA Bluebird.

The Platters brought the song back to the top 40 in 1961. Al Hirt released a version in (1962) on Trumpet and Strings and so did Bill Evans on Interplay In 1965 , Sinatra re-recorded songs for A Man and His Music double albums, complete with loyal reproductions of celeste and a choral accompaniment that characterized the 1940s recording. She also put it on her 1959 album No One Cares . It has been recorded by many other artists since then, becoming standard. Italian-American crossover artist Sergio Franchi covered the song on her 1967 RCA Victor album, From Sergio - With Love . The song was also covered by the popular Australian rock group Daddy Cool - they scored a Top 20 Australian hit with their version, which was released as a single in July 1972, just before the group broke up; they also performed at their parting concert in Melbourne, Australia in August 1972, which was recorded and then released as a double album in 1973.
