The National Smile Month is the largest oral health campaign of the United Kingdom, held annually throughout May and June. Previously "National Smile Week" is now one of the largest non-profit dental events in Europe; this attracts thousands of event coordinators and reaches millions of people with oral health information. The National Smile Month is run by the UK Dental Health Foundation (BDHF), a UK-based charity. By 2015, the campaign will run between 18 May and 18 June.

Origin and early year
The project "Smile 77" was launched in 1977, as a week-long campaign in the West Midlands. Poet Pam Ayres wrote the poem I Want Me to See My Teeth for the event - a poem that would later be voted into the top 10 of the BBC poll to find 100 Favorite Poems of the Nation. The event was repeated the following year, then the first National Smile Week was held in 1979.
'Eat Well Stay Biting Fit' is a 1984 Weekend theme with a launch at the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, where about 3.5 million press coverage was produced during the campaign. Two good food buses are traveling around London all week, teaching children sugar free cooking art and giving cakes to 2,000 hungry students.
The head of the northern branch of Gerry Dobbs, a general dentist and long-term member of the Foundation became Chairman in 1984 and led a period of high profile PR activity.
This includes the distribution of 'Secret Identification File' which contains information on many aspects of Dental Identity, distributed to 1,000 journalists. The 'Choosing Dentist' leaflet, also produced as part of the Smile Week campaign, is one of the largest and most successful national newspaper coverage ever. This helps the Foundation's turnover exceed 100,000 pounds for the first time in its history. The 1988 theme 'Your Dentist Cares' generated media coverage worth over à £ 1,000 and mainly featured jingles written and performed for the Foundation by the Fascinating AÃÆ'ïda group. The campaign continues to have a strong profile throughout the 1990s and to this day.

International reach
In 2009 the National Smile Month campaign went on simultaneously in the UK and US for the first time. BDHF and the International Dental Association (IDHF) branch partnered with Oral Health America to promote good oral hygiene. The campaign is considered successful and is estimated to have reached 180,000,000 readers and viewers. The slogan for 2009 is 'Brush for Health' and aims to build messages to link poor oral hygiene with other systemic diseases.
For the first time, National Smile Month was held in the United Arab Emirates, as 'UAE Smile Month' in June 2014.
