JibJab is a digital entertainment studio based in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1999 by Evan's brothers and Gregg Spiridellis, it first gained widespread attention during the 2004 US presidential election when their video of George W. Bush and John Kerry sang This Land Is Your Land becomes viral hit. Originally known for its political and social satire, JibJab produced commercials and shorts for clients such as Sony, Noggin, and Disney before focusing on eCard services and private messages that are now featured. In 2016, the animated sticker app - which has been available since 2014 - is the top IMESSage App Store app with download growth.

In 2012, JibJab is also expanding into the children's education market with a multi-platform learning program, StoryBots, which has since spawned two Netflix TV series, Ask StoryBots and StoryBots Super Songs .

Political satire

"Capitol Ill"

For the 2000 Presidential Elections' JibJab released a Flash movie titled "Capitol Ill" in July 2000, featuring an animated rap battle between George W. Bush and Al Gore. Appearances by Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush were also created.

"This Land"

For the 2004 Presidential Election, JibJab created the Flash movie titled "This Land," which features animated versions of George W. Bush and John Kerry - voiced by comedian Jim Meskimen - singing a parody of Woody Guthrie's song This Land Is Your Own Land >.

The video was regarded as an instant success, finally being seen on every continent (including Antarctica) as well as the International Space Station, while the site listed number one on Alexa's list of "Drivers and Shakers". Traffic spikes forced the JibJab server to close after a day, and the clip was placed in AtomFilms, where it got more than 1 million clicks in 24 hours.

Once linked to thousands of websites, this video is featured several times in print and on television, including NBC Nightly News, Fox News and ABC World News Tonight, . On July 26, 2004, the creators appeared on the The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In December 2004, the Spiridellis brothers were given the People of the Year title by Peter Jennings.

The Richmond organization, the music publisher who owns the copyrights of Guthrie through Ludlow Music Unit, threatens legal action. JibJab responded with a lawsuit in California federal court, claiming the song was protected under the exclusion of fair use for parodies. JibJab and Ludlow Music reached completion after attorney JibJab found evidence that the song had entered the public domain in 1973. The residential terms allow for the continued distribution of The Land .

"Good to be in DC"

In October 2004, JibJab followed up with another original animation, "Nice to be in DC," set to the song from the song Dixie . In this video, animated versions of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, John Kerry, and John Edwards sing about their hopes for the upcoming elections.

"Second Provisions"

Shortly after George W. Bush's election victory, JibJab released the third video, "Second Term." Set to tune He Will Come 'Round the Mountain , an animated Bush rambles on a successful bid for a second term as president, though John Kerry will, perhaps, have a turn to be president, someday.

"Time for Multiple Campaigns in"

For the 2008 Presidential Election, JibJab released another election-themed animation, "Time for Multiple Campaigns" in July of that year. Set to Bob Dylan's The Times They A-Changin, animated versions of Bill and Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Barack Obama, George Bush and Dick Cheney sing their presidential hopes. Viewers have the option of entering their own face as a harassed voter.

"He's Barack Obama"

After Barack Obama became President, JibJab released 'He Barack Obama', in which they portray Obama as a super hero. Music became a heavy metal interpretation of Johnny Comes Marching Home, as he promised he would improve the Middle East, defeat the Taliban, fix schools, fight bears, fix deficits and more.

Selection 2012

For the 2012 Presidential Election, JibJab did not make video election and instead began focusing their efforts on their e-card business. However, the web election application was released in October of that year.

2016 election

For the 2016 Presidential Election, JibJab did not make an election video.

Big Box Mart

In 2005, JibJab released the video "Big Box Mart". Sung to the song "Oh, Susannah", it tells the story of an American factory worker who buys some cheap "bullshit" and is imported from the local Big Box Mart, parody of the big box stores, running huge amounts of credit card debt. However, others also bought cheap and imported bullshit from Big Box Mart, so the American factory went out of business, leaving the protagonist out of work and mired in debt at age 53. Together with another co-worker, he went to work at the only the remaining workplace in town, the Big Box Mart, where he spent the rest of his life paying salaries to his salary, with little hope of retirement.

What We Call News

Sung to the song "Battle Hymn of the Republic", "What We Call the News" bemoans the decline of journalism in the cable TV era, especially the sensational story and the fact that "great legends find themselves replaced by blondes with big fake breasts!".

This sketch is part (and winner) of the 2006 online competition, The Great Sketch Experiment, organized by JibJab and their first direct action production. Participants included the comedy duo Famous Last Nerds (Jordan Allen-Dutton and Erik Weiner) and John Landis as directors. It sums up and parodies The Shawshank Redemption, solidifying the plot for nearly four minutes and underlining it with rap music.

Do I Creep You Out

JibJab produced a video for the 2006 song "Do I Creep You Out" by satirist Weird Al Yankovic, a parody of Taylor Hicks' Do I Make You Proud. This video depicts the main character who follows a barista in an increasingly disturbing way (as described in the song), ending up being beaten and caught by the police. The last scene reveals that the leader has been singing the song in a prison talent show.
