" Chelsea Smile " is a song by British rock band Bring Me the Horizon. Produced by Fredrik NordstrÃÆ'¶m and Henrik Udd, it was featured on the band's second studio album Suicide Season. The song was also released as the second music video of the album on January 19, 2009. Travie McCoy and KC Blitz produced a remix of the song for a special edition of the album's edition, Suicide Season Cut Up! , released in 2009.

"Chelsea Smile" has been identified as evidence of Bring Me the Horizon's musical development at Suicide Season ; Exclaim! author Dave Synyard praised it, along with "It Was Written in Blood", for featuring "catchier rhythms, reduced guttural vocals and more structured songwriting, as opposed to returning to technical riff guitar attacks". When asked about this approach change in relation to the two songs, vocalist Oliver Sykes explains that "I think it's great when a band can get very heavy and still have interesting hooks and riffs without it being cheesy and distinctive", adding that the band "tried making the heaviest and most catchy music ".

For the Cut Up! from the 2009 special edition of Suicide Season, a remix of "Chelsea Smile" produced by Jamie Kossoff and Jon Courtney under their KC Blitz moniker, as well as Class Heroes Class frontman Travie McCoy. According to the setlist website setlist.fm set, "Chelsea Smile" is the most frequently performed song at the Bring Me the Horizon concert. It has been included in the set list of several high profile performances, including band performances at Wembley Arena in 2014 (documented on live video album Live at Wembley ), Reading and Leeds Festival in 2015 and Alexandra Palace as part of That the Spirit Tour in 2015.

Music video

The music video for "Chelsea Smile" was directed by Adam Powell, who also worked on the video for Suicide Season previous "The Comedown". It was filmed and released in early January 2009, alongside a series of four behind-the-scenes videos that were uploaded periodically to the band's MySpace page. This video features a brief appearance of Canadian hardcore punk band member Cancer Bats, who was shown playing poker during the opening scene. Kerrang! put it at number 9 on their band's best music video list in April 2015, praising the vibration of high-energy party. The video was later included in the reissue Cut Up! special edition Suicide Season .

Reception

AllMusic's Tom Forget praised the "Chelsea Smile" as a highlight of Suicide Season, describing it as "Made intricate and refreshingly unexpected". And Slessor from Alternative Press named it the best Bring Me the Horizon song, praising "steel-coated juddering, crazy energy, titanic breaking and dangerous hooks". Loudwire's Sarai C. The rank was at number 2 on his feature of the band's best songs, highlighting the importance for the development of group sounds and the metalcore genre in general, moving away from its deathcore roots. Luke Morton ranked the sixth best song by the band, describing it as "one of the most disgusting songs ever called catchy" and praising the "brutal brutalization" and "primal screams".
